nike free run This year we have seen yet another ratings battle between two of the UK's most popular programmes, ie Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor. These reality shows divide opinion across many families in the UK and there is an ongoing rivalry between the two shows. So why is there such a rivalry, and why do these shows divide opinion so much? Well if you look through history, you will see that there has always been a big rivalry between BBC and ITV. This is hardly surprising because they are the two biggest channels in the UK and get the biggest audiences. So when they go up against each other in the same time slot, which is the case with these two TV shows that go out at roughly the same time on Saturday nights, it is obvious that each one wants to get the highest ratings. nike free run This has resulted in programme makers doing everything they can to create controversy, and subsequently to draw viewers in. For example if you look at The X Factor this year, there have been a lot of arguments between the judges. Some of these may well be genuine, but I think many people can see that they may well be staged to some extent, and designed to create controversy in order to attract bigger audiences. Strictly Come Dancing, however, continues to improve their show in the hope that they will win bigger audiences. In previous years they have had a big extravaganza in Blackpool, and this year they have gone even further with a sell-out show at Wembley Arena in front of several thousand fans. They have also attracted some really famous celebrities in recent years as well. Whereas in previous years we have had quite a few Z-listers, this year we have had some fairly big names take part. nike free 3 So there is clearly a big rivalry there, and there is also a divide in certain families as well. It is often the case that the younger members of the family want to watch The X Factor, whilst the parents and grandparents prefer to watch Strictly Come Dancing. So because they are on at the same time, this often means that people have to watch their favourite shows in a different room. Anyway the point is that this rivalry, which has been going on for many years now, continues to split opinions and shows no signs of abating. The X Factor has traditionally won the ratings war, but this year it looks as if Strictly Come Dancing has come out on top on most weekends. So it will be interesting to see the viewing figures for the respective finals of each show in the coming weeks.
